Best Gift For Moms - HEALTH

On 10th May we celebrated Mother’s Day. This day is not just about showing gratitude towards mothers but also celebrating the most beautiful feeling of motherhood. We must have celebrated this day with joy, excitement. Some of you would have made a card, or did all the house chores, or wrote a poem for mother, or made cakes, and told her how much she means to you and so many different ways. In this world of social media it is always fun to see all my friend’s mother’s photos!
Yes that's my mom. Isn't she beautiful?

But now let’s not just keep this care restricted to this day! Let’s show her love all the way through her life by taking care of her health too. Mothers are amazing, they might go to any extent for protecting their child but forget to take care of themselves. I have specifically focused on the mothers of age 40-50 because that is a crucial stage- a period where most of the women have menopause, also their children are mature enough to take care of their mothers and themselves too.

What mothers experience in the age of 40-50

This stage includes the phase of PREMENOPAUSE and MENOPAUSE
Menopause means stopping of periods
In this stage there is decrease in estrogen level which is a female hormone
In this stage a women experiences - stress and mood changes, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, many lifestyle and metabolic disorders, etc
But a healthy diet and exercise helps in reducing all these problems

Healthy diet

Besides the common nutrients i.e carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals here are some additions

      1.      Calcium

Calcium is required in more amounts because the calcium loss increases during this stage and it leads to bone problems like osteoporosis ( weaker bones )
Foods- sesame seeds, milk, cheese , yoghurt, green leafy vegetables, soya beans,

      2.       B- 12

It helps in formation of RBCs, building muscular strength, etc.
Foods -  mainly animal products contain vit. B12. There also tablets available but they should not be taken without doctor’s guidance

      3.      Fiber

Digestion system is also seen to be declined and fiber helps in prevention of constipation
Fibrous fruit such as bananas, apples with their skin, oranges, etc, pules, beans, nuts, whole grain cereals like jowar, brownrice, nachni, etc

      4.      Fluids

Fluids also helps to prevent constipation and better digestion of food

      5.      Phytoestrogens

As the estrogens levels are decreasing, it is necessary to have certain level of estrogen from outside
Phytoestrogen is found in Soyabean

Exercise

As at this stage the bone health keeps declining because calcium deposition decreases. When we exercise our bones get stimulus and calcium deposition increases too, so it is very necessary to exercise. Exercise in any form can benefit- workout, yoga, walking, going to gym, zumba, etc

Meditation

As this stage is emotionally hard too, one cannot forget the importance of meditation for calming the chaos in the mind. Mindful breathing helps a lot in keeping the mind calm. A calm mind gives rise to a calm and healthy body. There are many other ways to meditate check out on 5 ways to de-clutter your mind

Must things to do

1.      Breakfast within 1 hour of waking up

A healthy nutritious breakfast is necessary because it gives you fresh start to your morning. A healthy breakfast includes all the major nutrients i.e. carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and mineral
Like vegetable Upma with a cup of tea/milk

2.       8 glass of  water

Water is the most important nutrient of your body. Most of the times we are dehydrated. Being dehydrated may also lead to binge eating. SO DRINKING WATER IS MUST!
You can check out my drinking schedule in my blog
Why water is the best drink?

3.       One fruit everyday

No need to buy exotic fruits, rather local and seasonal fruit. If the fruit can be eaten with peel should be eaten with peel like an apple ( wash the fruits properly  of course )

Now that you know how important this phase is for our mothers, tell her to take for herself just like she cares for you. Help her in making breakfast, bring fruits for her, talk with her, hug her ( yes you can tell her you love her even if it isn’t mother’s day ). All these years she helped you grow, physically, emotionally, socially. Now it is our responsibility to help  her take care of herself too!
Also don’t forget to share this with all the  beautiful women you know !
